Astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn was born in Cambridge, Ohio.

In 1959, John Glenn was chosen to be one of our country’s first astronauts in Project Mercury. The goal of the project was to put a man in space. John made history by becoming the first American to orbit Earth. He circled Earth three times in his space capsule called Friendship 7.
